Experience Behind Every Repair

Off The Chart Marine is locally owned and owner operated by Dylan Lackey.

Dylan's background includes professional experience working with marinas and marine dealerships in the Wilmington area, along with years of mechanical experience. His training includes Yamaha outboard certification training through Cape Fear Community College and Mercury outboard certification training through Mercury's online technical program.


That experience shapes his approach to repairs. Rather than assuming the first problem found is the only problem, Dylan looks at the systems involved and works to understand what caused the failure.


Attention to detail, clean and organized work, thorough diagnostics, and straightforward recommendations are important parts of every repair.

    Hard starting, rough running, loss of power, unusual noises, warning alarms, electrical problems, overheating, charging issues, steering problems, and changes in normal engine performance can all indicate that your boat should be inspected. If something does not seem right, diagnosing the problem early may help prevent additional damage.

    Our goal is to identify the cause of the problem before recommending a repair. We do not believe in replacing parts simply to see if a problem goes away. Once the issue has been diagnosed, we explain what we find and recommend the repair we believe is appropriate for the boat.

    Intermittent problems can be more difficult to diagnose because the issue may not be present when the boat is inspected.
